Graduations and Achievements

usual, we have an outstanding and illustrious group to
commemorate. Mazal tov to ALL
these children and their families on their graduations and
achievements...
Graduates:
Alison
Brookmeyer, daughter of Michele and Stephen Brookmeyer, is
graduating from West Hollow Middle School.
Alison was on the High Honor Roll.
Carrie Gerber, daughter of Willa and Marc Gerber,
graduated from Binghamton University with a BA in Politics,
Philosophy and Law. She is continuing her education at
Binghamton University in the Decker School of Nursing
Accelerated Program and will earn her BSN next year.
Carrie was chosen to be the 2008 Senior Class Council
President and presented the University President with the
class gift at each gradation ceremony.
Alex Gerofsky, son
of Debbie and Brian Gerofsky, is graduating from Walt Whitman
High School. Alex
is in the top five of his graduating class, and is on the
Principal’s list. He
won both a New York State Scholarship for Academic
Excellence and a PTA Scholarship for Academic Excellence, and
will be attending The Cooper Union College of Engineering in
New York City in September.
This summer, Alex will be traveling and performing with
the Long Island Youth Orchestra in Eastern Russia, Japan,
South Korea and Hawaii.
Carsen Kralstein, daughter of Almarie and Evan Kralstein,
will be moving on from Stimson Middle School to Walt Whitman
High School. Carsen
has been on the Honor Roll for the last two years, and this
year, was on the cheerleading squad in addition to swimming
for Team Suffolk. She’ll
represent Walt Whitman next year for the independent swim
league.
Hannah Kucine,
daughter of Cindy Tobin, graduates from West Hollow Middle
School, where she has been on the High Honor Roll every
marking period. Hannah’s work was also recently
exhibited in a district-wide art show.
Keith Laban, son of Robin and Rick Laban, is graduating
from Half Hollow Hills High School East. He’ll be attending
the engineering program at the University of Buffalo.
Scott Landman, son
of Pamela and Paul Landman, is graduating from Paumanok
Elementary School.
Jeremy Lanz, son of Leora and Alain Lanz, graduates
preschool from Greentrees Country Day School and will begin
Kindergarten at Oakwood Primary Center in the fall.
Jordana Lanz,
daughter of Leora and Alain Lanz, moves from Birchwood
Intermediate to Stimson Middle School in honors social
studies, science, language arts and math classes.
Lindsay Lazarus,
daughter of Iris and Joel Lazarus, is graduating from Half
Hollow Hills High School West, and will be attending Syracuse
University.
Samantha Lustig,
daughter of Lauren and Jack Lustig, is moving up from
Candlewood Middle School to Half Hollow Hills High School
West.
Allison Mintz,
daughter of Mandy and Gary Mintz, is graduating from Walt
Whitman High School. She received the Michael S. Curtin
Citizenship award and the Presidential Award for Community
Service, and will be attending SUNY Albany in the fall.
Brandon Odze, son of Sheryl and Richard Odze, is moving up
from West Hollow Middle School.
Elana Resplar,
daughter of Karen and Bruce Resplar, graduates from Half
Hollow Hills High School East, where she was an honors student
and a member of National Honor Society, Thespians, and
Art Honor Society. She will be attending University of
Hartford, majoring in business.
Gayle Rudofsky,
daughter of Roz and Ed Rudofsky, graduated Princeton
University as a molecular biology major.
She’ll be attending the Albert Einstein College of
Medicine.
Marlee Shnitkin,
daughter of Robin and Mark Shnitkin, is graduating from West
Hollow Middle School, where she was on the High Honor Roll.
Ian Schwartz, son
of Cheryl and Herb Schwartz, graduates from Half Hollow Hills
High School East. He
will attend Union College this fall.
Alex Sloan, son of
Susan Sloan and Fred Sloan, is graduating from Half Hollow
Hills High School East, and will be attending the Pratt School
of Engineering at Duke University.
Seth Walker, son of
Trudie and Al Walker, graduated from the University of Rhode
Island with a degree in Resource Economics and Commerce, with
a concentration in Fisheries Management. He
will again be attending graduate school at URI starting in
September for a Masters in Environmental and Natural Resource
Economics, where he will be doing research on Markets for
Sustainable Certified Seafood.
Jessica Wishnew,
daughter of Lauren and Robert Wishnew, graduated from the
University of Pittsburgh Medical School, and is doing a
pediatric residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical
Center Children’s Hospital.
Achievements:
Gennah
Borg, daughter
of Paula and Michael Borg, received the Girl Scout Silver
Award, the highest award a Cadet Girl Scout can receive, in
recognition of her leadership and service achievements. Gennah
will be entering 9th grade at Half Hollow Hills High
School East in September.
Elliot Figueroa,
son of Leslie and Ray Figueroa, was inducted into National
Honor Society at Walt Whitman High School, as well as the
National Business and Marketing Honor Society of New York
State. He also received the President's Volunteer
Service Award.
Emily Figueroa,
daughter of Leslie and Ray Figueroa, won a gold medal with her
competition dance team.
Maxx Meyer, son of
Ronni and Jeffrey Meyer, a sophomore at Half Hollow Hills High
School East, was selected for the 30-player Empire State
Lacrosse Team. Eleven-hundred players from Nassau and
Suffolk Counties competed for a position on the team.
Jayme Mintz,
daughter of Mandy and Gary Mintz, was inducted into the
National Junior Honor Society.
Jessica Mintz,
daughter of Mandy and Gary Mintz, was inducted into the
National Junior Honor Society.
Samantha Scharf, daughter of Karen and David
Scharf, will be swimming for the Sid Jacobson Jewish Center in
Roslyn at the JCC Maccabi Games this summer in Detroit,
Michigan.
Jordan Schuman,
daughter of Peri and Peter Schacknow and Brian Schuman, and
granddaughter of Sally Appollo, received a grade of
Outstanding on her NYSSMA Vocal Solo, and sang with the
Women’s and Select Choirs at Walt Whitman High School.
She had a lead role in the school’s musical
production, playing Little Red Riding Hood in Into The Woods,
and was inducted into the International Thespian Society.
Jordan was on the Honor Roll.
Justin Schuman, son
of Peri and Peter Schacknow and Brian Schuman, and grandson of
Sally Appollo, was on the High Honor Roll at Walt Whitman High
School. He
received his third consecutive perfect score on a Level 6
NYSSMA Vocal Solo, and sang with the Senior, Select, SCMEA
All-County and All-State Choruses.
Justin had featured roles in the school’s musical and
dramatic shows, and also appeared in the Star Playhouse
production of “The Music Man.”
Justin was inducted into National Honor Society, is a
member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and became an Honor
Bar Thespian in the International Thespian Society, of which
he was also elected President.
Ilana Winter,
daughter of Tamar and David Winter, made the High Honor Roll
and is a member of National Junior Honor Society.
She participated on the Kickline and Danceline teams at
West Hollow Middle School, as well as dancing on a competition
dance team at Jam Dance and Fitness, where she received
several medals and awards.
