With their own YOUTH HOUSE, Kids from grades 4th through 12th can find a place for themselves in SHJC’s Youth Group. There’s something for everyone, whether you just want to get together with friends, participate in mitzvah projects or engage in Jewish living. It’s not only about the events, it’s about the lifetime of memories that are created. These are the moments that help influence who our children become.
Meet our new youth director, Joshua Jurysta,
Hello, my name is Joshua Jurysta and I am the new youth director at SHJC’s USY chapter, SHUSY. I grew up in Oceanside, NY going to elementary school at The Brandeis School in Lawrence. Starting in sixth grade I started attending Kadima events regularly at Oceanside Jewish Center and then later Hewlett East Rockaway Jewish Centre. Starting in 9th grade I attended Solomon Schechter High School of Long Island. While at SSHS, I became very involved in Chapter, divisional, regional, and international USY. Anywhere from Chapter board to Regional General Board to Co-chairing divisional and regional events. After high school I continued onto my gap year program which was USCJ’s Nativ College Leadership Program in Israel. After Nativ, I continued onto Drexel University for freshman year. After freshman year, I moved back to Long Island to continue my studies back home. While frequently staffing divisional and regional USY events I stumbled upon the SHUSY chapter where I soon became the new Youth Director.
My plan for SHUSY is to build the chapter up to new heights while teaching the USYers to be young Jewish leaders in any community with knowledge of their Jewish heritage, religion, and homeland. In addition, USYers will have the opportunity to be involved with the community by giving back. These are vital skills that all USYers learn and skills that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
