PURIM IS COMING!!

Don’t be left out … Participate in Sisterhood’s Shalah Manot program !!

Order Purim baskets and satisfy the mitzvah of Purim by sending baskets to all of your friends and acquaintances at SHJC.  The order form contains all the members of South Huntington Jewish Center, the teachers, staff, clergy, and others associated with the synagogue.

Order forms were mailed to everyone.  If you did not receive it or need a replacement, email purim@shjc.org and a copy will be emailed to you.  Check off the box next to the name of those you want to send to. The first 4 baskets you contribute to cost a nominal $9/name, but after that, it’s only $2/name. Be generous and send not just to your friends, but send to those who are new to the community, to those who are needy, and to those whose spirits would be bolstered by knowing someone cares. The more people you send to, the greater the mitzvah.

Each family who receives a basket will be given a greeting card that includes the names of all the people who contributed to their basket (that is, you receive only one basket regardless of how many people send to you).

Spread the good wishes and give to family and friends who are not members of SHJC – we will have a limited number of baskets available, on a first come, first served basis, for you to give for a minimum $18 donation each. If you’ve gotten one of our Purim baskets before, you know this is a bargain. Reserve with your order.

The Book of Esther also encourages the giving of gifts to the poor by giving tzedakah on Purim. You can include a donation to charity by checking off the box on the order form.

The contents of the basket vary from year to year but they are always chock full of delicious goodies. Some items are nut-free, some are gluten-free. We never know until the very end what will be in the baskets. That’s part of the fun — seeing what is in the basket.

Baskets will be available for pickup at SHJC from Sunday, March 8 at the Purim carnival through Friday, March 13. During the week prior to pickup, you will receive a mailing with the pickup schedule and your balance owed. Baskets not picked up will be donated to charity. If you do not plan on picking up your basket, please indicate that on your order form and it will save us the time and money required to prepare your basket.

The deadline for submitting your order is January 24, 2020. We need time to coordinate the project, so please be understanding and turn in your order form as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued support.
