Family Education

 “A Jewish home is where Judaism is at home.” – Abraham Joshua Heschel

Family Education at SHJC provides families and individuals the opportunity to celebrate the joys of Judaism in a communal setting, as well integrating ritual, practice and values into their home lives.

Congregational activities include celebrating Sukkot with “Pizza in the Hut”; and family celebrations of Havdallah, TuB’Shevat and Yom HaShoah. Parenting/book discussion groups explore parenting skills and issues through a Jewish perspectives.

Some of the programs are:
B’yachad:  Jewish Women Learning Together:We meet monthly on the first Wednesday of the month for informal discussions and text study on topics of interest to the Jewish woman.  Currently we are taking turns presenting on the Rabbis of our tradition to the present.

Rosh Hodesh:  It’s a Girl Thing!  In its fifth year, monthly meetings for teens (girls only)  to discuss relevant issues with a Jewish twist.  We talk, eat, bake and create.


PJ Library:  SHJC is proud to be a participant in this nation-wide initiative to provide Jewish books to children ages 6 months to 8 years.
